Integrative Dentistry: For the Whole Person

holistic dentistryIntegrative Dentistry, also called Holistic Dentistry, Alternative Dentistry, or Complementary Dentistry is a philosophy where we the dentists take into account our patient’s entire being with regard to dental procedures. Traditional dentistry, like doing crowns, fillings, and many other procedures must be done with an eye to the well-being of the whole person.  For instance, why put mercury into someone’s mouth, or for that matter, any other incompatible material not knowing how it could affect the person’s entire health.

An integrative oriented dentist also keeps up on the latest information regarding the biocompatibility of materials he or she uses on their patients.  This includes mercury amalgam fillings, metal crowns, root canals and fluoride among others.  We are constantly searching for the least invasive products and procedures to “do no harm”.  Getting to know your patient’s needs, knowledge, and history is very important.  With all the information available to patients on the internet it is important to help sort out what is viable and what is not. We will help you decide which integrative dentistry procedures are best for your needs.

Constantly expanding knowledge is hard to keep up with, but the integrative oriented dentist will filter out what is best for the patient.  It is also very important to have a knowledge of other integrative oriented practitioners in other disciplines to help guide people down the right avenue of wellness for them.

Some integrative oriented procedures:

  1. Safe mercury filling removals
  2. Biocompatibility testing for dental materials used
  3. Good and bad Fluoride uses
  4. Root canal issues
  5. Use of Ozone
  6. Sleep apnea
  7. TMJ and craniofacial adjustments
  8. Self-esteem improvement with cosmetic dentistry
